Rayanna Brigade and key reasons behind current crisis in Karanataka BJP
Choice is left to party president Amit Shah and he has already announced chief ministerial candidate for upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. BJP opposition leader in the lower house, K S Eshwarappa despite pointing announcement in open, says grand state-level conference of Sangolli Rayanna Brigade (SRB) will be held on January 26 as it was scheduled earlier.
However, Eshwarappa minced no words while targeting his political foe and said party cadre was disgruntled by the style of functioning of state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa. “I fear not to go on record. Yeddyurappa ignored a large section of potential leaders in a rush to boost his close political associates. This irked the cadre and I just voiced concerns of party workers,” Eshwarappa candidly told Samachara in a telephonic conversation.
He said he does not want to bring SRB into politics as this fledgling body has broader aims of ameliorating plight of many backward class and Dalits. SRB will launch awareness programmes on value of education, employment, voting and democracy. “Our SRB will bring them to the societal mainstream.” So far large sections of backward class and Dalits’ votes were purchased by political parties by giving away freebies and luring them offering liquor and money. This has to end completely; SRB will toil in this direction.
For a question – was launching SRB a calculated political move woven by national BJP joint-secretary (organisation) B L Santosh based on information sourced from insiders of the RSS, Eshwarappa said, “you have to question the RSS top heads for that.” While pressed him to answer it, he said “I do not deny this or confirm this; you have get clarity from the RSS itself.”
Eshwarappa is no averse to Yeddyurappa’s appointment as CM candidate. Opting candidates is left to the discretion of party leadership, mainly party president Amit Shah. “As Yeddyurappa was announced as CM candidate by Shah, I am not at all opposed to this.”
What if Amit Shah wants to replace Yeddyurappa? Eshwarappa said he will not answer this question. According to highly placed sources in the BJP entire episode of SRB is directed by B L Santosh. “Santosh has been making all out effort to overthrow Yeddyurappa from politics from many years and this is just another attempt,” said a source privy to this dramatic development.
Santosh still carries a desire to hold the helm of Chief Minister and he was extremely miffed seeing the sudden growth of Yeddyurappa. To Santosh, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar gives his thought while scripting political drama. Kumar too wants to see himself as CM, but currently he is ready to sacrifice to witness the downfall of Yeddyurappa. Eshwarappa is a pawn in a bigger game, source added.
Samachara tried to contact Santosh to get his version of the story, but he did not respond to multiple phone calls.
