Deccan Herald to discontinue Delhi edition from December

Karnataka’s one of the most trusted premier English dailies Deccan Herald’s (DH) Delhi edition will be discontinued from the month of December. While initially, this media development was shared to Samachara by reliable sources in the newspaper, later it was confirmed by the Associate Editor of DH.

The DH that was established in 1948 and published by Mysore Printers Private Limited launched its Delhi Edition in 2011. Albeit discontinuation of the edition, the Delhi bureau will function normally.

Associate Editor of DH, Subrahmanya K speaking to Samachara said, “it’s the decision of the management to stop Delhi edition.” However, he did not divulge reasons behind this move. He simply said Delhi bureau will continue but edition will be stopped.

This also means, the DH will step out of the competition between its competitors, mainly Hindustan Times, Times of India and Indian Express in the national capital.

According to sources in the daily, the decision was purely based on performance of the newspaper in Delhi. Earlier, DH claimed it has circulation of 25,000 in Delhi. But later the circulation gradually slipped owing to several factors.

Before considering this decision, the management reduced number of employees working at Delhi Bureau. Then, the publication moved the desk management of Delhi edition to Bengaluru. This signaled the upcoming decision of discontinuing the edition to some of its employees.

The newspaper made several experiments to increase the circulation. These did not help sustain numbers. The launch of newspaper back in 2011 marked the debut of Karnataka based publication in Delhi.  If sources are correct, the discontinuation will come into effect from December 10.

DH has trusted readers of its own and it is the most trusted newspaper in the state of Karnataka. Mysore Printers also publishes three publications in Kannada including Prajavani (the daily), Sudha (the weekly magazine) and Mayura (the monthly magazine).
